UPDATE: Position is filled. Stay tuned for next time.
It’s that time again! I am looking for a helper to put in about 4-5 hours a week in exchange for:
^ those things are all negotiable for the right person.
This is a remote job, though ideally you’ll be in the Reno-Tahoe zone so we can talk to each other’s faces now & then. If you’re not local, don’t let that keep you from getting in touch.
I expect the work to last a few months, but if you’re increasing my cash flow, I might try to keep you longer. (or if you need a specific time period for an official internship, we can talk about that)
I’d like to indoctrinate a vulnerable young mind into the fraught, perilous practice of independent freelance writing and blogging. I’ve been doing this for over a decade; currently, I teach two courses on content strategy and blogging through the University of Nevada. I’m published in medium-big magazines and blogs, have ghostwritten two books, and am working on lots more projects right NOW.
The tasks will be of the non-fun variety: researching opportunities, developing and tracking pitches, social media calendaring, some database management for list building, etc. Basically you’ll be doing most everything but writing.
In exchange, you get hands-on experience with what it takes to do this work successfully. When we’re done, you will have more confidence to start putting your work out there, and a much stronger understanding of how to hustle as an independent writer.
The work you’ll be doing for me will be deeply valued and hugely effective, by the way. Not exciting, but reallyreally useful. I’m headed toward a growth phase and need to get my foundation fully bricked. Your help will be an absolute treasure to me.
The ideal person is:
What you want to write/accomplish/create is irrelevant, actually. Any and all subject areas and interests are welcome. I’m not going to teach you what to publish and sell; I’m going to teach you how.
Use the contact form and tell me about yourself.
Also let me know your conditions: where you’re located, what you need to be able to do this job, whether you want to go for college credit etc.
Got clips, resume and so forth? Send it all.
I look forward to hearing from you!
